Who you are buying from
Robber Baron is a series of Specie, a house of satirical painting, sold by PaintedApp, LLC, 1327 SE Tacoma St #394, Portland, OR 97202. Write to support@painted.app about anything on this page.
What you are buying
Each canvas is a giclée print in pigment ink on stretched canvas, made to order by our print partner Prodigi from a digital master of the cover. A paper proof is a giclée print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag cotton paper, sent unframed. Nothing is hand-painted, hand-finished, signed or gilded. The covers were painted for this series with an image model working from our written brief and character bible, chosen by eye, and the masthead and captions were set in type by our own software.
The edition
Each of the ten covers is an edition of 25 on canvas, counted across every canvas size together. A number is assigned when the payment lands, in the order payments arrive, and carried on your receipt and on the order to the lab. When twenty-five numbers are taken, sold or retired, the cover is closed and the checkout refuses it. A returned or refunded number is retired and never sold again, so an edition can close at fewer than twenty-five copies. The paper proof is an open edition and carries no number.
A sitting
A sitting paints the person in your photograph as the magnate on a cover of The Plinth Weekly, in the manner you choose, with a caption you write. By uploading a photograph you confirm, and the two boxes before the upload ask you to confirm, that:
- the photograph is of you, or you hold the written permission of the person in it to have this cover made;
- that person is 18 or older;
- the photograph shows one person only, who is not a public figure; and
- it shows no uniform, badge or insignia of a real organisation.
We refuse a photograph that breaks these rules, and if one gets through we cancel the order and refund it in full. You give us permission to use the photograph only to paint your cover, and the painted cover only to show it to you, print it and deliver it. We never use your photograph or your cover to advertise, and we never train a model on either.
Your caption
The caption is up to 60 characters of letters, numbers and ordinary punctuation, set exactly as you write it. It may tease the sitter. It may not name a real person other than the sitter, and the checker refuses a list of real billionaires’ surnames on sight. You are responsible for the words, and you confirm you have the right to print them. We may refuse a caption we would not print, and refund the order if we do.
Price of a sitting
Your first four sittings are free, and you see the cover before you pay. A sitting printed costs the edition price at the same size plus $600. It is numbered C-1, C-2 and onward, outside the twenty-five, so the edition stays twenty-five.
Prices and payment
Prices are in US dollars and include tracked delivery within the United States, the only country we ship to for now. Stripe takes the payment; we never see your card.
Delivery
Every canvas is made after you pay, then shipped tracked. Each order waits an hour before it goes to the lab, and a reply to the receipt inside that hour cancels it in full. Production and delivery usually take two to three weeks, and we send the tracking when the canvas leaves the lab. Risk passes to you on delivery.
The last copy
If two payments for the twenty-fifth copy arrive within the same minute, the second is refunded in full within two working days and nothing is printed for it. Every other return is in Refunds and Returns.
The pictures and the character
The covers, the character Erasmus Plinth and the masthead of The Plinth Weekly belong to PaintedApp, LLC. Buying a canvas gives you the canvas, not the right to reproduce the picture. You may photograph it on your wall and post the photograph. A cover from your sitting is yours to hang and to share; we keep the right to the scene and the character in it, and we never show your face to anyone else.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of the State of Oregon, United States. If you buy as a consumer in the EU or the UK, you keep the protections of the law where you live.
